Stop And Smell The Soap

As I’m scrubbing my tub on my hands and knees using vinegar and baking soda, I was reflecting on a recent conversation Pam and I had earlier in the week.  “Your bathroom smells SO GOOD!”, Pam exclaimed.  I smiled and said, “Thank you, it’s just soap”.

Soap

I have these little cubes of soap sitting in a wax bowl that offer the most delicious, clean soapy scent.  I’ve had these soaps for years and thought they were too “fancy” to use.  So one day I decided to take them out of the drawer and put them in a bowl for display. Whalah!  Instant room air re-freshener!

The fresh soapy scent hits me every time I walk past the bathroom.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s not really strong if you are sensitive to powerful smells.  It just smells clean.

Where am I going with this….

Everyday we have a routine, whether it’s a bath or a shower, we step across the threshold at some point to wash ourselves with soap and water.  Whatever your choice is, bar, jell, salt scrubs etc…, have you ever just stopped for a moment during the “hurry to get out” mode and smelled the soap?  It’s a pause.  A good pause.  Think about it.  Have you ever been to the spa, hot tub, gone for a massage?  Maybe, maybe not.  But if you have or will go, it’s your time to pause, relax and let the world go on without you.  The scents around you are intoxicating.  It’s a grand way to escape.

So back to the daily routine.  Next time you “jump” into the shower or bath, stop for a moment and let time stand still.  It only takes a moment to smell the soap.
