You know the place….

It’s November in Venice, Italy. There is a hush in St. Mark’s Square. The crowds have lessened, there is a bit of peacefulness.

I was born into this world of small islands joined together by bridges accessible by boats or walking. There is no other city in the world like Venice. It is where my family was born and raised. My grandfather and great-grandfather were gondoliers for decades. A place where I feel at home when I step into the magical surroundings of Venetian history.

This particular trip we experienced the magic of crisp November mornings and watching the holiday spirit come alive throughout each day. Lights strung between the buildings and piazzas. Balconies filled with holiday greens and colorful decorations. Each direction we walked gave us pause to breathe in the glorious surroundings of each boutique celebrations to come.

One new discovery is Murano Illumina Il Mondo. Eleven beautiful, handcrafted chandeliers from various artists.

An artistic spectacular holiday tradition is a little-known outdoor “gallery” of Murano glass chandeliers created by artists who display their works within the walkway of St. Mark’s Square. Each year there are different artists and beautifully crafted lampadari (Italian for chandeliers) hanging from the top of the covered corridor amongst the shops along the same side of the clock tower of St. Mark’s Square. If you are standing in front of the clock tower, look to the left. Stroll along the corridor amongst the shops.

On the opposite side of beautiful St. Mark’s Square are lights floating above like stars in the sky. They beckon you to enter and stroll past the shops filled with holiday treasures.

My guy, husband, and best friend in the world. Right there.

The holiday season is magical. Lights, culinary surprises, music and a feeling of energy fills the air. Venice is a treasure. A rare jewel wrapped in a cloak of water and history. I am Venetian.
