Taco Seasoning

I found it! Your new go to homemade, custom blended Taco Seasoning. Move over envelope and hello jar. A few ingredients you may already have in your pantry and voilà your taco seasoning is ready. Double and triple the recipe so you have plenty for your next Taco Tuesday or whatever day you are hungry for tacos!

A couple of years ago I found this recipe searching the web and came across this version of taco seasoning from Allrecipes.com. It’s been a staple in our kitchen ever since.

Here’s the deal. This is where you are going to be your own boss. I’ll give you the ingredients and measurements, it’s up to YOUR tastebuds to decide if you want a little more of this or that.

For instance, garlic abounds in our house. I put a little extra heap to my spoon. I want to control the salt so a little less in my blend. You get the picture. When blending seasonings for this recipe, I’ll provide the “guidelines”. You get to take from there.

Sprinkle your homemade Taco Seasoning on browned ground beef or turkey, chicken for fajitas, pork or shrimp. It’s a delicious blend I make over and over.

Taco Seasoning

  • Servings: about 1/4 cup

A seasoning perfect for ground meats.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt or kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

  1. In a medium bowl, blend all spices together.
  2. Add 1 tablespoon of seasoning to your cooked ground meat. Add more depending on how much seasoning you like. Add 1/2 cup water or more if you have added more seasoning, simmer until the water has evaporated. Stirring occasionally.
